Having a Dragon Day?
Why We Spiral...and A Dragon Day Story

Have you ever had one of those days where nothing terrible happened...yet everything somehow felt heavy?
The kind of day where you question yourself.
You replay old conversations.
Every unfinished project suddenly feels overwhelming.
Your to-do list grows larger by the minute, and before long it feels as though your entire life is unraveling.
I've had those days too.
In fact, one of those days inspired this story.
I realized something that afternoon. My family was safe. My home was peaceful. The people I love were okay. Nothing outside of me had changed.
But something inside me had.
My mind was trying to explain a feeling that didn't have a clear cause.
I call that spiraling.
Maybe you've experienced it too.
Our minds are remarkable problem-solvers. When we suddenly feel anxious, discouraged, or emotionally heavy, they immediately begin looking for a reason. They gather evidence from every corner of our lives until today's emotion begins wearing yesterday's clothes.
Every worry.
Every unfinished task.
Every uncertainty.
They all end up in one pile.
That's when I was reminded of a story...
🐉 A Dragon Day
The Story of the Little Baker Dragon
A Dragon Day Video YouTube Link
Long ago, at the Crystalline Prana Academy, a young dragon prepared for the biggest test of his life.
A wise old wizard gave him one simple assignment.
"Fly to the village beyond the hill... and breathe your finest fire."
The little dragon practiced for weeks.
He wanted so badly to do everything perfectly.
But when the day of his test finally arrived, his thoughts began racing.
What if I fail?
What if my fire isn't strong enough?
What if I disappoint everyone?
The faster he flew, the more those thoughts spiraled.
By the time he reached the village, his heart was pounding.
He took the biggest breath he'd ever taken...
"Ahhh..."
"Ahhh..."
"...CHOO!"
Instead of burning the village...
his fiery sneeze baked every loaf of bread waiting in the village ovens.
The smell of warm bread drifted through the streets.
People came running from every direction.
The children laughed.
The bakers cheered.
Before long, the whole village was celebrating.
The little dragon blinked in confusion.
"I... I failed."
The wise old wizard, who had quietly followed behind, simply smiled.
"But...did you?"
The dragon looked around.
No one was frightened.
No one was angry.
The village was filled with warm bread, smiling faces, and grateful hearts.
The wizard placed a gentle hand on the little dragon's shoulder.
"Perhaps your fire was never meant to destroy."
"Perhaps it was always meant to nourish."
From that day forward, the little dragon stopped trying to become someone he wasn't.
Instead, he opened a tiny bakery and spent his days baking warm Fire Rolls for anyone who wandered through the village.
Years passed.
His bakery became a place where people gathered after difficult days, celebrated joyful ones, and found comfort somewhere in between.
Then one afternoon, while pulling a fresh tray of Fire Rolls from the oven, the little dragon noticed someone sitting alone beneath a tree.
Their shoulders were heavy.
Their thoughts seemed even heavier.
He knew that look.
He quietly closed the bakery for a little while, tucked a warm Fire Roll beneath his wing, and flew down beside them.
He landed softly in the grass.
His little baker's hat sat slightly crooked.
His apron was dusted with flour.
Without saying a word...
he offered them the warm Fire Roll.
After a quiet moment, he smiled gently and asked,
"Rough day?"
When they nodded, he gave a knowing smile.
"Mine started that way too."
And only after they had something warm in their hands...
did he begin listening to their story.
What Stayed With Me
I think that's why this little story stayed with me.
Not because of the dragon.
Not because of the bakery.
Because it reminded me of something I needed to hear.
Difficult days don't always tell us the truth about our lives.
Sometimes they simply tell us how today feels.
Those aren't always the same thing.
The little dragon didn't deny that he had a hard day.
He didn't pretend everything was okay.
He simply discovered that his story wasn't finished yet.
Neither is yours.
Before You Decide Today Means Everything...
When I catch myself spiraling, I've learned to pause before believing every thought my mind offers me.
Instead of asking, "What's wrong with my life?"
I try asking a few gentler questions first.
-
🥚 Have I eaten something nourishing today?
-
💧 Am I hydrated?
-
😴 Am I exhausted?
-
🌿 Have I stepped outside, even for a few minutes?
-
🫂 Have I connected with someone I trust?
-
❤️ Am I treating today's emotions like permanent truths?
Sometimes those simple questions don't solve everything.
But they often help me separate today's emotional weather from the larger landscape of my life.
